Program Overview

The Disaster Relief Fund assists public education employees and retirees who require emergency financial assistance for a short-term hardship due to a disaster. Grant seekers are NOT required to be members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association but must be eligible to receive benefits from the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas.

The Disaster Relief Fund has awarded more than $375,000 to 1,100 active and retired school employees to repair damage to homes caused by flooding, burst pipes, leaking roofs, and more since its inception in 2017, thanks to the generous donations made by members of the TRTA!
