I served public schools for 27 years as a band director and teacher.
I taught in Spur ISD, Wellington ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Rockdale ISD, and Bryan ISD. I served as a Band director 5-12, High School Director, Middle School Director. I also taught High School Texas History and US Government. I took a one year sabbatical to serve as the low brass instructor for the Elgin High School Band to help them prepare them for their TMEA Class AAA Honor Band Concert at the Texas Music Educators Association State Convention. I also performed in a Brass Quintet with the Elgin HS band in a composition that was commissioned for the Honor Band Performance.
As a teacher, I hope my legacy was that when my students moved on, they were better citizens. I always told my students that I wanted them to encourage one another, be polite, be responsible, be caring and always give their best. If they could do that, the music we made would always be great. And it was.
As a retiree, I hope people would say that I helped make a difference in the quality of life for our older retirees, and that I served my fellow man in an honorable way.
