Welcome to November, when members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) celebrate and honor the great charitable endeavors of our charitable partner organization, the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF)!
TRTF just launched its annual appeal to raise funds for its four primary charitable programs and its endowment fund: “A Helping Hand,” Classroom Assistance Grants, Beginning Teacher Scholarships, the Disaster Relief Fund and the Lehr-Pritchard Endowment Fund. Our goal is to raise $100,000 in donations to support its programs to help educators of the past, present, and future!
Since the program’s inception in 2010, “A Helping Hand” has given more than $150,000 in aid to help fellow retirees and current teachers get back on their feet! If you or someone you know needs financial assistance with medical or utility bills, home or auto repairs, apartment rent, groceries, or other unexpected emergencies, please call the TRTF office at 1.800.880.1650 (ask for Sarah).
In 2020, TRTF will award thirty $500 Classroom Assistance Grants to educators across Texas. The grants are awarded to public school teachers who demonstrate commitment to the education of Texas children through the creation of programs, events, learning platforms, or other innovative classroom projects.
TRTF will also award 20 $750 Beginning Teacher Scholarships to recent college graduates. This scholarship reimburses applicants for certification tests and test results and provides funds to help the applicant purchase materials for his or her classroom during his or her first year of teaching. Applicants must be related to a TRTA member.
During the month of November, TRTF will release several videos that feature a grant and scholarship winner and “A Helping Hand” story that will warm your heart. We ask our members to watch the videos and really see how their donations are changing lives! Stay tuned for Tim Lee’s Inside Line updates to view the videos.
You can also read more about all of TRTF’s charitable endeavors in the third quarter issue of The VOICE. Please consider sharing the Foundation videos with your local unit members, friends, family members, neighbors and active teachers in local schools!
